Understanding UTC Offsets
Every time zone is expressed as an offset from UTC, the number of hours (and sometimes half-hours) added or subtracted. For example, UTC+5:30 is India Standard Time, which is 5 hours and 30 minutes ahead of UTC.
Offsets can be negative (the Americas are mostly west of UTC), zero (London in winter), or positive (Europe, Asia, and the Pacific). Some countries use non-standard half-hour or quarter-hour offsets, India (+5:30), Iran (+3:30), and Nepal (+5:45) are common examples.
Americas
UTC−12 to UTC−3. Most of the US uses UTC−5 (EST) or UTC−8 (PST) in winter.
Europe & Africa
UTC−1 to UTC+4. Central Europe is UTC+1 (CET) in winter, UTC+2 in summer.
Asia & Pacific
UTC+3 to UTC+14. Japan (UTC+9) and Australia (UTC+10/11) are common destinations.
How This Time Zone Converter Works
Live clocks
Both clocks read from your device's system clock and update every second. Each timezone is resolved using the browser's built-in Intl.DateTimeFormat API against the IANA time zone database (for example America/New_York), the same database used by Linux, Android, and most server infrastructure.
Offset and difference calculation
To find the time difference, the tool compares the current UTC calendar time against each selected zone's local calendar time and derives the offset in minutes. This approach automatically accounts for daylight saving time because the IANA database encodes exactly when each region's clocks shift.
Converting a specific time
Enter a time in the “Convert a specific time” field and it is treated as a time in Zone 1 today. The tool computes both zones' UTC offsets for that date, applies the difference, and displays the equivalent clock time in Zone 2. Using today's date matters near a DST transition, since the offset a week from now may differ from the offset right now.

Why the browser clock, not a server
Reading the time from your own device (rather than fetching it from a server) means the clock is only as accurate as your device's system time, but it also means there is no network round-trip delay and the tool works even with a poor connection. Most phones and computers sync their clocks automatically via NTP, so drift is rarely more than a second or two.
