Free Dynamic QR Codes: How Many Can You Make? 7 Services Compared

Every free dynamic QR plan says unlimited scans. The real limit is how many codes you get: 1, 3, 5, 10,000 or unlimited. Seven services read from their own pages in November 2026.

Seven free plans, by how many codes you get

Every service below says its free plan has unlimited scans. That leaves the number of dynamic codes as the limit you will actually hit, and it runs from 1 to unlimited.

How many codes is enough

One printed flyer needs one code. A restaurant with a code on each of twelve tables, or a shop with a code per product, needs a dozen or more. A plan with one code works for a single menu and runs out the day you add a second campaign, and the usual next step is a paid plan.

The caps of 1, 3 and 5 are fine for trying a service. They are tight for anything you will print more than once.

What happens when you outgrow the free plan

  • OpenQR: editable codes pause and are never deleted, per its page.
  • QRLynx: says static and dynamic codes have no automatic expiry. Expiry rules are a paid feature you switch on yourself.
  • Toolember: codes keep redirecting if you never pay or cancel Pro, and a deleted code's short id is never handed to anyone else.
  • The rest: the pages read do not say. Ask before printing a thousand of anything.

Where Toolember loses

  • MetricQR lists unlimited free dynamic codes against the 10,000 here. That only matters if you print more than 10,000.
  • UQR and OpenQR put a logo and custom colours on free codes. Here that is a Pro feature.
  • Free here makes URL codes only. WiFi, vCard, email and SMS codes are Pro.
  • Toolember has no API, team seats or custom domain on the short link.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a free dynamic QR code generator with unlimited codes?▾
MetricQR lists unlimited dynamic codes on its free plan, as of November 2026, per its own site. Toolember gives 10,000 free dynamic codes, which is more than most people ever print. The other five services checked here cap the free plan at 1, 1, 3, 3 or 5 codes.
Do free dynamic QR codes have a scan limit?▾
Not on any of the seven services checked in November 2026. Each one states unlimited scans on its free plan. The cap that actually decides whether a plan is enough is the number of dynamic codes, not the number of scans.
Do I need an account to make a free dynamic QR code?▾
It depends. Toolember lets you create a dynamic code with no account; the code is tied to the browser that made it, and signing in lets you edit it from any device. EasyQR and QRLynx say dynamic codes need a free account. MetricQR says no sign-up is needed to start but codes only save once you are signed in.
What happens to my codes if I outgrow the free plan?▾
Check before you print. OpenQR says editable codes pause and are never deleted. QRLynx says neither static nor dynamic codes expire automatically. Toolember's codes keep redirecting even if you never pay or cancel Pro. Most of the others do not say, which is worth asking them directly.
